Food at Gippsland Lake

FOOD & WINE IN THE GIPPSLAND LAKES REGION

Twin Rivers Farm-Food and Wine Trail is the best place to begin your food lovers’ journey. Pick up a brochure from the Visitor Information Centre for your introduction to some of the best farm fresh produce, fruit, herbs, wine and cafĂ© treats.

Ramble around these country roads and all kinds of produce will be offered up to, with seasonal signage alerting you to extra special delights, like tasting the sweet flesh of a just picked peach from a local orchard.

Your gourmet induced whirl will continue as you visit lakeside villages. From the freshest fish and chips you will ever taste to waterside dining, your taste buds will be working out. Look out for Duck Fish and Flathead, locally fished and very tasty. Buy some prawns off the trawler in Lakes Entrance, cooked as they are caught you will never taste better.

Say cheese and we will ask ‘what kind?’ Gippsland cheeses are renowned, with organic goat varieties the new kid in town.

Don’t forget to sample our wines. Smaller, intimate wineries are home to special varietal offerings like pinot noir and chardonnay. The hinterland of the lakes around Bruthen and Swan Reach with its special climate makes for great grapes, so great wine is the outcome. Local bottle shops and cellar doors stock most labels.
